A look back to the future!
Numerous world-class events have already taken place in Hamburg and have always proven that Hamburg is a city that can accommodate any kind of event. Not only because we provide the necessary infrastructure in Hamburg, but also because people in Hamburg work hand in hand in a spirit of partnership and passion.
Some examples of conventions that have been visible worldwide were the Lions Clubs International Convention in the summer of 2013 with around 23,000 guests from all over the world and the Rotary International Convention 2019, which attracted more than 26,000 guests from 170 countries to Hamburg.
Especially in the scientific field, Hamburg is a city that can boast world-class congresses and conferences. These include the ITS World Congress 2021 with around 13,000 participants or the 22nd Euretina Congress with a total of 6,600 guests.
In Hamburg, we may say “Yesterday’s newspaper only wraps up the fish”, but we take past events as a yardstick to constantly develop ourselves further and look full steam ahead to the future.

The city is the star. And the city has it all! Around 1.8 million inhabitants within the city limits and 5.2 million people living in the metropolitan region. Hamburg is a port and Hanseatic city – with a great tradition, because Hamburg was the first container port in Germany.
Today Hamburg is the third largest container port in Europe. Nevertheless, it is an extremely green metropolis: with over 200 parks and 4,900 hectares of public green spaces, 72 % of the city area in Hamburg is green. This can be seen and felt in every corner of the city. More than 2,500 bridges cross the numerous canals and waterways that criss-cross the city.
If we look at the MICE location, Hamburg has around 362 hotels with over 66,000 beds and almost 35,000 rooms – across all star categories. As you can see, Hamburg is a city worth visiting. Especially if you are planning your own MICE event.

Accessibility
Conference and congress participants have it easy in Hamburg. Both the journey and the possibilities for getting around within the city are almost ideal. The central location in Northern Europe and the excellent public transport services ensure mobility. Hamburg is also a city of short distances, so that many parts of the city can be reached on foot. And if the walk is too long, you can simply take our innercity train transport the S-Bahn.
Would you like an example? The Rotary International Convention 2019 in Hamburg was the first annual meeting of the service club for which no shuttles had to be used and for which only public transport was used. And that with more than 26,000 guests! We also looked in detail at the topics of accessibility and mobility.

The new CCH – Congress Center Hamburg
Few major cities around the world are in the lucky position of being able to offer both an exhibition complex and a convention center right in their downtown area. Hamburg is one of them. Linked by “Planten un Blomen” park, the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg and the exhibition halls form a unique event campus in the heart of the city. The Hamburg Messe und Congress campus is the city’s largest site for events.
The modernized and remodeled CCH – Congress Center Hamburg enthralls visitors with its light-flooded modern architecture, expertly designed spatial concepts and first-rate AV equipment. It also sets new standards in terms of location, flexibility and individuality. The redesigned “Congressplatz” square and the new entry area give a foretaste of the unique character of this building. This magnificent impression continues to build as guests walk through the spacious entrance hall and Belvedere.
The CCH – Congress Center Hamburg is one of Europe’s most modern convention centers and, with 36,000 square meters of available space, one of the largest ones, as well. Not only that, it is also sustainable and barrier-free. Our convention center has received Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). This is the highest-level DGNB sustainability certification awarded to an existing convention building to date.
The number 12,000 has a very special meaning at the CCH: There are 12,000 square meters of event space and another 12,000 square meters of foyer space. 12,000 visitors can attend events at the CCH at any one time. Its up to 50 multifunctional halls for conventions and events of any kind with 500 attendees or more are spread across four levels and three event sections – West, Central and East. Each of the three sections has its own entrances and exits. Flexibility3, as we put it!
The modern, light-flooded exhibition complex next to the television tower is located just a few minutes’ walk from the CCH. It attracts numerous successful national and international trade shows and other events every year. Eleven halls covering 87,000 m2 of exhibition space as well as an outdoor area of 10,000 m2 offer plenty of room for anything from small, refined concepts to large events. In addition to the hall booked, accompanying conferences or meetings may be held in the adjoining conference spaces.

Incentives & social programmes
A good event delivers knowledge, generates exciting projects or gives rise to sustainable networks. A perfect event, however, is characterised by the fact that, in addition to the experience in the conference room, it also delivers an exciting supporting programme that fits the event, or that immerses the participants in the organising city, makes them feel it. These are the memories that stay in participants’ minds and will always be linked to the congress or conference. Since we are well aware of the importance of social programmes, we have built a larger stage for the topic of Incentives and social programmes. You are sure to find one or two exciting ideas here. We can only say one thing: often typically North German, but always unique!

Sustainable meetings
Hamburg is a green metropolis. A city that is always evolving and where the issues of the future are always at the centre of attention. Whether it’s the topic of mobility of the future or the modern port – Hamburg is constantly working on bringing the topic of sustainability into focus. Of course, this is also an essential factor for conferences and congresses. That’s why we also took a closer look at sustainable solutions for meetings.
Despite all the world congresses we have hosted, Hamburg is still a sleeping beauty. A “hidden gem” within the international meetings industry. But believe us: Hamburg will surprise you – we are sure. Because this is where profession meets professionalism. Passionate hosts, Hanseatic teamwork and an ideal MICE network make our city stand out.
